Move or Get out of the Way
Here’s another installment in the “have situational awareness” series. On the lift today a fellow told me about a near-collision he recently had.
Since a portion of the ski area doubles as a golf course during the summer, there’s a culvert near one of the par 5 fairways, which helps drain water down the hill. During the winter, you can ride through the culvert en route to one of the terrain parks. I’ve done that once or twice, though not today.
One companion on a ride up on the lift told me that he was riding through the culvert, got towards the end of it, and then … a young skier stood in the middle of the culvert, blocking the exit. The snowboarder had to slam his board sideways (practically the width of the ridable surface of the culvert) to avoid slamming into the child.
So people … Know where you’re at, and don’t get in the way.
